Hospice care decisions not ‘exact science’ says lawyer to jurors

barristerwigPHILADELPHIA: Predicting whether someone with a disease will die within six months isn’t an exact science, a lawyer for a hospice provider told jurors today.

“No human knows whether someone is going to live less than six months,” said the lawyer during opening statements of the trial of a whistleblower lawsuit that alleges the company submitted false claims for patient hospice benefits.

Six former employees filed whistleblower lawsuits claiming the company had pressured employees to enroll as many people as possible into its hospice program.
