Group Homes offers new choice for people with dementia

2DALLAS: It’s been exactly three years since Tamar Krebs opened her first group home for dementia residents in St Ives. The innovative aged care alternative has proved so successful that she now has six more located across the north shore and eastern suburbs.

“People want to live in their own community, in a home environment that looks like home and smells like home, even as their memory starts to fail them,” Ms Krebs said. “The Group Homes Australia model was born out of looking at the fundamentals of what people want and need.”

With 18 years experience in the aged care industry both here and abroad, Ms Krebs wanted to provide a new choice for older Australians and revolutionise the “institution” and “warehouse”-type facilities that she had worked at in the past…..
