End in sight for affordable housing scandal

parkway housingDALLAS: The bitter two-and a half-year row over the ‘scandal’ of publically-subsidised affordable homes lying empty looks set to come to an end.

The 37 units were completed in early 2013, but are still unoccupied 30 months later owing to the failure to appoint a social housing provider to manage them.

However, the developer has announced it had finally exchanged contracts with a leading developer and provider of homes and housing.

While the resolution to the ongoing saga is a “step closer”, the developer says it still needs to “satisfy certain contractual obligations” that involves the completion of some minor works to the affordable units before they can be made available.

The developer admitted this could take up to 16 weeks, meaning the homes may still not be occupied until early next year – three years after they were first finished…
