Development of new innovative skilled nursing home under way

umbrellas MIAMI: Work is under way to build the UK’s first pre-designed ‘flexible model’ specialist dementia skilled nursing home in South Cerney at 30 per cent the speed and three-quarters of the cost of what would usually be expected to help tackle rising numbers of dementia sufferers.

Lakes Care Centre, a 64-ensuite bed facility – spread over two floors and covering 3,600m2 – will include a cinema, hair salon, sensory garden spaces and themed common areas, all abiding by innovative environmental principles developed by the University of Stirling to enable dementia sufferers to live more independently.

The intelligent 3D building information modelling (BIM) being used in the design and construction is expected to optimise the functionality and performance of the facility, with the flexible design allowing for Lakes Care Centre to make adaptations to the building to meet residents’ requirements.

The construction, due for completion by the end of the year, is being undertaken by Stepnell.
