CHICAGO: Queanbeyan City Council is pushing ahead with plans to make the riverfront a community hub.
Mayor Tim Overall said the council hoped to link the riverfront area with the town centre as part of its CBD stage two upgrade.
“[That will] make it a really active, vibrant place for markets, small concerts, a family place, water theme parks and so forth,” Cr Overall said.
“That’s up for tender at the moment and that will be coming to council, I would suggest, early December for a council meeting, if not later this month.”
He said the council had received strong interest.
“Hopefully council will approve a tender and we’ll get on with construction starting in late January,” Cr Overall said.
