WASHINGTON, D.C.: Basildon Hospital has launched a ’Golden Oldies’ show on its radio station, designed to help dementia sufferers.
The show, which will air between 2pm and 3pm, Monday to Friday, will play only classic music from easy listen artists like Frank Sinatra and Glenn Miller.
It has been devised by the hospital’s Dementia Project, to stimulate elderly dementia sufferers’ memories.
Jane Gilby, the hospital’s lead dementia nurse, said: “There is loads of research that shows music is very powerful in unlocking the brain for people living with dementia, but the Golden Oldies hour will also be enjoyed by all our patients and anyone who remembers their parents playing these songs”…
