Call for help to ease work pressures to prevent lapses of care for elderly

DENVER: Experts have called for government intervention to improve working conditions in skilled nursing homes after researchers studying carer practices witnessed disturbing events, including a screaming patient being physically forced to have her incontinence pad changed.

University experts – who emphasized that staff working in difficult conditions were not to blame for the problems – want action after monitoring 88 hours of the care given to about 120 patients at two unidentified homes…
