NEW YORK: Stitch, a dating and companionship app for the over-50s, has held discussions with major media companies ahead of its Australian launch.
Founded by Australian entrepreneur Andrew Dowling, Stitch has a holding company registered in Sydney but has been focused on the larger US market since launching in March 2014.
The company plans to launch in May, with or without a partner, but is believed to be keen on a deal with the likes of News Corp or Fairfax Media.
Fairfax has experience in the sector. It merged its dating website RSVP with competitor Oasis Active in a $90 million deal last year and retained 58 per cent of the merged entity, in which Ten Network Holdings has a 17 per cent stake.
Stitch has more than 7500 members, with the bulk in the 50- to 70-year-old bracket. Interestingly, the company has found that baby boomers spend more time online than millennials…
