MIAMI: Older adults are more likely to be healthier and wealthier in 10 years than they are today, and much more likely to be in work and living as a couple, say projections from the Institute for Fiscal Studies.
The study based its projections about living conditions for the over 65s on existing demographic trends, as well as the effects of policies that affect those over that age now.
The combination of rising longevity, healthier old age, greater workforce participation and existing state pension policies means the percentage of older adults in absolute poverty is likely to fall sharply from the current level of a fifth to about one-eighth of population.
