Donor puts up $1m to fund dementia innovation

SEATTLE: An anonymous donor has stumped up nearly $1 million to fund an annual “Nobel” prize for researchers who come up with ways to improve the life of the elderly.

The Ryman Prize is named after Ryman Healthcare, the New Zealand retirement community operator chosen to administer the prize through the Ryman Foundation.

The $150,000 annual prize will be available for five years to “reward the world’s best advances that enhance quality of life for older people”.

The international judging panel will be led by University of New South Wales psychiatry professor Brian Draper…
