Skilled nursing home homes/staff to be held legally liable for dementia ‘wanderer’ deaths

SAN DIEGO: Police have recovered the body of a 91-year-old man who went missing from a skilled nursing home.

The man’s death has been referred to the coroner.

These incidents are no longer acceptable, when for a few dollars all at risk residents can be located at will.

Skilled nursing homes are putting their reputations at risk, upsetting residents and their relatives, using up public resources and each incident reminds the public of residential aged care ‘unreliability’.

Worse, if skilled nursing home staff persist with this practice, and something happens to a wanderer, the skilled nursing home and staff will become legally liable because it will be shown that there was a low cost mechanism that could have prevented injury or death, which you knew about and did nothing…
