NEW YORK: A landlord employed agents to frighten the elderly from their homes. A man in some kind of uniform was going up and down the four stories of a residential building, yelling that the tenants had 72 hours to get out.
If they did not comply with his order, he said, a marshal would come with police officers to take them out in handcuffs.
“It was crazy,” recalled one resident, who has lived in the building for 13 years. “I was so nervous.”
Another resident, said she came home from a funeral that night to find her neighbors, many of them elderly, gathered on the first floor.
