Push to create new market for housing solo seniors

PHILADELPHIA: AirBNB has enthused a local charity to fly the kite of organizing homeowners to rent our any spare bedroom to a ‘solo senior’.

Initial discussions with authorities have thrown up some roadblocks.

Authorities are worried that sub-letting could damage social cohesion, take family homes from the rental market, and turn blocks of flats into de facto hotels.

But the idea is gaining ground as a way of providing more cash to homeowners and improving liquidity by sharing the household bills…
