Staff retention strategies in skilled nursing home sector remain poor

COLUMBUS: Staff turnover rates in skilled nursing homes are running between 19 per cent and 45 per cent per annum.

The high turnover is blamed on low wages, menial work, poor public image, low self-esteem, under-education and language difficulties.

The sector has been very slow to develop a culture of genuine belonging, staff rewards, flexi-time, regular performance reviews and continuous education, which builds confidence, enthralls residents, bolsters residents relatives confidence in their residential choice decision, and enhances their employers brand and value…

Continuous Education.
