SEATTLE: Today’s homebuyers are more moneyed, married and mature than in years past.
And owners are staying put in their properties a lot longer – either by choice or economic necessity, according to a new study.
“Their tenure in homes is at the highest level we have recorded – it’s now 10 years,” said Jessica Lautz, the study research director. “Prior to 2008, the average tenure was six years.”
On average recent buyers say they plan to stay in their property for a dozen years.
The survey covered thousands of people who had bought houses around the country between the summer of 2013 and mid 2014. “The demographics have changed pretty drastically in recent years,” Lautz said.
