Trend for baby boomers to upsize homes

LOS ANGELES: A report released last month concluded that today’s homes generally lack the features that these aging boomers will need – such as extra-wide hallways and easy-to-reach light switches and door knobs.

Now, a new survey suggests baby boomers simply don’t care.

A poll of nearly 4,000 baby boomer households (ages 50 to 69) found that this generation won’t “stick to the script”. Most of them don’t plan to move, and if they do, they don’t necessarily plan to downsize. As for mortgage debt, they’ve still got it and they still see no problem with taking out a mortgage to finance the next home. In fact, they’re confident they can qualify for a new one even though it’s still tough to get a mortgage these days…
