NEW YORK: The five hundred and seventy-first entry for the seniors housing Global Awards 2016 has been received.
The University of the Pacific broke ground on its newest residence halls earlier this week, ringing in not only the hope of modern housing units for upper-division students, but the promise of jobs and economic stimulus.
By January 2018, two four-story units on the north shore of the Calaveras River will stand where the old tennis courts and part of a recreation field once were located. Tennis is now played in the Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center south of the Calaveras.
The $36 million project of the two residence halls will eventually be a 158,000-square-foot complex that will include 381 beds, indoor and outdoor gathering places, WiFi access and lots and lots of hard wiring for all the gadgets and devices that are now part of everyday life.
The University last added living space in 2002, before the use of so many electronic devices.
The complex is designed for juniors, seniors and graduate and professional students.
