NEW YORK: The four hundred and seventy-ninth entry for the seniors housing Global Awards 2016 has been received.
Modern-day hippies will share electric Audis and a communal vegie patch in Perth’s first ecovillage, as part of a growing trend to embrace the environment and an old-fashioned sense of community.
The upcoming $7.5 million Thrive development in White Gum Valley comprises 14 dwellings featuring environmentally-friendly designs as well as water and energy efficient appliances.
A 35kW solar panel system and 80kW of battery storage will generate the community’s energy supply with enough power left to sell to neighbours.
A stormwater system will supply the communal vegetable patch and orchard.
Contempo Homes creative director Vince Radford said there were a few eco-developments in Perth but Thrive was the first ecovillage because it aimed to create a community bond between residents, with a communal workshop, a common room and a shared bike shed, facilities and vegetable patch.
