Seniors housing developers compete for Global Award

trophyNEW YORK: The three hundred and ninety-third entry for the seniors housing Global Awards 2016 has been received.

Arizona State University has a new housing project in the works, but it’s not for students.

The university, working with the not-for-profit organisation Pacific Retirement Services and the ASU Foundation, is planning a retirement tower just off campus.

The 20-story building will go up at the corner of University Drive and Myrtle Avenue, less than a block away from Mill Avenue. Mirabella at ASU will house nearly 300 apartments.

“I don’t think it makes sense,” Joey Quatmann said on campus Friday. “It’s loud. Students are obnoxious.”

“I think it’d keep me young,” Laurel Krodel said.

While visiting the campus for her son’s orientation, she said the university is a perfect place for the 55-and-older crowd.

“It’d be great to be integrated with the college students,” she said.

Developers are targeting ASU alumni and retired staff for the new complex.
