Fluctuations in BP linked to faster decline in cognitive skills

072015_depressiondecline DALLAS: It is vital to have stable blood pressure level. A new study has found that elderly with fluctuations in blood pressure may witness faster decline in cognitive abilities.

Researchers have noticed that if systolic blood pressure of older adults varied between doctor’s visits then they are more susceptible to rapid mental deterioration and loss of verbal memory than those whose top blood pressure reading stayed normal.

Not only systolic blood pressure, but researchers mentioned that diastolic blood pressure, the bottom number, also mattered. If it also varies then it was linked with decline in mental ability in adults aged between 55 and 64, but not in those aged 65 and above….
