DALLAS: Musician Louis Murphy moved into the Artist Lofts last year eager to make use of the soundproofed, 24-hour music studios. To his dismay, those studios now close at 10pm because of complaints from upstairs residents about the noise.
Acrylic painter Tracy May said she was unhappy to discover that the paint rooms no longer allow chemical sprays or aerosol cans because of a lack of proper ventilation.
“It’s advertised as being a ‘live-work’ loft,” said audio engineer Cameron Ljungkull, who was twice written up by management for making too much noise in his unit. “Many of us, including myself, are receiving lease violations for working out of our lofts, and that’s unfortunate.”
Tenants acknowledge some problems have needed sorting out. But their view is that the property owner has backtracked on promises made at lease signings and come down hard on minor infractions…
