Shopping malls become ‘exercise yard’ for elderly

shoppingBOSTON: 80-year-old Betty Stack is heading off for her morning walk.

But instead of going to the park, the grandmother of five ambles across the road to the Shopping Centre.

There she will meet a group of 40 fitness freaks, all ready to traverse the shining corridors.

Welcome to the world of mall walkers.

The walkers, aged between 55 and 85, meet twice a week and cover two kilometres inside the centre each time. Some others who feel up to it usually split off for a longer lap outside…
