Age care compounds becoming soft crime targets

crimeHOUSTON: Retirement communities and rest homes imply a level of elevated safety in their commercial pitch to prospective customers.

But evidence is mounting that age-apartheid compounds are increasingly becoming soft crime targets and the care sector is trashing its reputation by doing nothing to effectively counter the growing threat:

414: A woman is due in court accused of neglecting an elderly woman at the skilled nursing home where she worked. The 22-year-old was arrested along with two other members of staff who have since been released without charge, after relatives of the alleged victim called police.

The skilled nursing home was last year fined for failing to alert the governing body about an allegation of abuse at the home, as well as incidents of residents needing hospital treatment following falls on the premises.
