WASHINGTON, D.C.: Dr. James E. Galvin’s 3- to 5-minute Quick Dementia Rating System screening tool supplants a process that takes clinicians four to five hours to administer and score. The new 10-item questionnaire can be administered by a caregiver, friend or family member. Galvin sees it as a tool not only for possible care and treatment, but to help “prequalify patients in clinical trials, prevention studies, community surveys and biomarker research,” according to the university.
