WASHINGTON, D.C.: Whilst most believe they may be living longer, and most plan to be working longer, employers are less optimistic about the value of an older workforce.
However, recruitment specialists are urging businesses to recognise the value of their older workers and do more to recruit and retain them. Otherwise a longer retirement could impact negatively on the economy.
The Workmonitor report released today showed 36 per cent believed children born today would live to be 100+ and 79 per cent of workers believed they would work beyond the current retirement age.
72 per cent of workers surveyed believed they would retire when they were over the age of 65. However, only 37 per cent of employers had active policies in place to attract and retain people who were aged over 55.
