EL PASO: A new real estate agency, Property Initiatives Real Estate, will pump its profits into buying and constructing properties for women and children escaping domestic violence or poverty.
The not-for-profit Women’s Property Initiatives opened in 1996, and has battled to provide enough housing for the number of women referred to them by outreach charities. Its current waiting list is about 200 and the phone rings daily, said Women’s Property Initiatives CEO Jeanette Large.
It intends to build 10 homes in the next five years and then have enough income from the agency to build on a regular two-to-three year cycle.
