NEW YORK: The four hundred and third entry for the seniors housing Global Awards 2016 has been received.
A 126-room residential aged care facility featuring the work of architectural firm Jackson Teece has been named a finalist in the 2016 NSW Architecture Awards’ Public Architecture category.
The $36m Paling Court facility is a new 8,700 sqm residential aged care facility for Carrington Care adjacent to historic Carrington House in Camden, representing the only aged care facility nominated in this year’s NSW Architecture Awards.
Paling Court’s focus was on providing a ‘deinstitutionalised’ experience through quality environments that enjoy abundant natural light, cross ventilation and views while being of a domestic character for its residents. The topography of the site, orientation, heritage Cottage (Grassmere), existing vegetation and trees determined the built form; the majority of rooms face east west due to the longer boundaries being orientated in this direction which feature greater screening and sun protection.
